History of Dota 2:

This PC game is one of the best MOBA games that can be entertaining yet stressful due to its detailed in-game mechanics and complex gameplay. This real-time strategy game always provides dynamic match situations that provide in-game learning to the players.
This MOBA game is the sequel to Defense of the Ancients, a community-created mod of Warcraft: Reign of Chaos. Valve hired the designer of Defense of the Ancients, Icefrog, in 2009 to create a modernized and optimized version of DotA.

Game details – Dota 2

In this game, two teams consist of 5 players competing against each other to destroy a large tower, ‘Ancient,’ defended by the opposition while defending their side. The game is played from a three-dimensional isometric perspective. In a match, ten players control one of the 123 playable characters known as ‘Heroes’ offered by Valve.
Each of the Dota 2 heroes has its own design, strength, and weaknesses. Heroes are separated into groups according to attributes like Strength, Agility, and Intelligence. There are different hero roles offered in this game. Other hero tags fall into these three attribute-based heroes. Tags are:

  • Nuker- Quickly eliminates enemies using high-damage spells with low cooldowns.
  • Initiator- Initiates the team fights.
  • Disabler- Mainly known for crowd control to disable opponents with spells.
  • Durable- Last longer in team fights.
  • Escape- Good at retreating.
  • Pusher- Can quickly siege and destroy towers.
  • Melee- Make close-range melee attacks.
  • Ranged-Do long-ranged attacks.

A hero can consist of multiple tags. But the roles are divided into two primary roles – Carry and Support.

Carries are the most vulnerable heroes in the early game, but with correct farming, carries are the one that wins you the game. On the other hand, Supporters assist the team in winning the team fights.

In a Dota 2 match, the players acquire five individual positions. Numbers often refer to positions.

  • Carry (1): Starts at a safe lane with hard support. This role requires most gold, so the rest heroes need to protect the carry.
  • Midlaner (2): You have to do 1v1 with the opponent and secure the last hits of the creeps. After earning a particular gold and XP advantage, you can gank in other lanes.
  • Offlaner (3): Keeps pressure in the opponent’s position one and survives longer. It Rotates and often plays a utility role.
  • Soft support (4): Starts with the offlaner. Suports with stun and disables. Roams around the map to help in the gank.
  • Hard support (5): Protects position one and sticks to the hero. Purchases support items to help the team.

Players select their playable heroes during the pre-game drafting phase, where they can consult with their teammates, create strategies and create a balanced team. Heroes cannot be changed after the drafting phase. These heroes are based on the Defense of the Ancients, and a few entirely new heroes have been added.

With the basic attacks, each hero has a different set of powerful abilities. Leveling up enhances their skills. A hero can upgrade their level up to 30. Players can use their most potent, Ultimate ability after reaching level 6.

To prevent continuous skill spamming and maintain the game balance, each skill requires ‘Mana Points’ that recover slowly, and skills also have a cooldown period. Heroes also have a ‘Talent Tree’ that allows the players to develop the heroes according to their choice. After dying, heroes respawn in the base after a countdown.

In this game, two teams, Radiant and Dire, occupy opposite corners of the map, divided by rivers and connected with lanes. Buildings guard each lane. Small weak AI-controlled creeps travel in the lanes to attack opposition heroes, creeps, and buildings.

Neutral creeps do not attack until provoked. The most powerful NCP is called ‘Roshan.’ Killing Roshan provides special items like “Aegis of the immortal,” which helps the resurrection of a teammate to the teams that killed Roshan.

Getting stronger is not limited to leveling up. Players can purchase items from shops through gold to enhance skills and improve stats. Gold can be earned by destroying towers, killing enemy heroes, and hitting creeps.

Golds cannot be shared between teammates; each player has their independent loadout. With these, the team that can destroy the opponent’s ancient wins the match.

The Game also offers multiple game types, such as:

  • All Pick
  • All Random
  • Captain’s mode
  • Turbo
  • Single Draft
  • Least Played
  • Limited Heroes

  • 1v1 Solo Mid
