Meet One of the All-Time Top Earners in Esports: KuroKy

The world of esports provides a powerful platform for the youth with several career opportunities and earnings options. Multiple professional players have utilized their skills in the professional circuit and touched more than a million in earnings. Kuro Salehi Takhasomi, better known by his in-game name KuroKy is a German and Iranian professional Dota 2 player who currently plays for Nigma Galaxy.

KuroKy was the highest-earning esports player in 2018. He is currently ranked as the 6th highest-earning esports player in the world, with more than $5.2 million as the prize money from several tournaments.

Overview

a. Early days

Born on 28 October 1992, KuroKy grew up in Germany. KuroKy’s story is inspirational to specially-abled people. He suffered from disabilities in his legs. He stated that this weakness had led him to play video games.

b. Professional career in DotA

KuroKy played for a few German teams before joining mousesports. He has begun his professional career at the age of 16. This esports lineup attended DreamHack Winter 2008, where Puppey was the stand-in. 

He has also joined Ks.int. Some well-known players from the DotA scene were on the team, such as Vigoss, Puppey, and LevenT. It began the long-term friendship between KuroKy and Puppey.

c. Professional career in Dota 2

KuroKy’s first LAN appearance in Dota 2 was The International 2011. He participated as a player of GosuGamers.net along with Mirakel, Azrn, and Kebap, but struggled at the group stage. After the lousy run, KuroKy joined multiple teams, including PANZER and 10,000th. 

In 2012 May KuroKy joined Virtus.pro but was eliminated by mousesports and zNation in The International 2012. He also joined mousesports, Uebelst GamynG but his first breakthrough came under the banner of Natus Vincere. In The International 2013, NAVI bagged 2nd place. However, he left NAVI in 2014 due to a disappointing performance in The International 2014.

On 27 August 2014, KuroKy, his former teammate Puppy, Fnatic players Fly, and N0tail formed Team Secret. Later Fly and N0tail were swapped with Arteezt and Zai. This roster has won 4 consecutive LAN tournaments but again showed disappointing performance in The International 2015. KuroKy left Team Secret in 2015 and formed 5Jungz. The roster of 5Jungz:

Team Liquid signed this lineup. This team has won EPICENTER 2016 and 2nd place in the Shanghai Major 2016 and the Manila Major 2016. With the addition of Miracle- and GH, Team Liquid has won several LANs and conquered The International 2017 by defeating Newbee by 3-0.

In 2018, Team Liquid achieved 4th place in The International 2018. The team won the Chinese Super Major 2018 and 2nd place in MDL Disneyland Paris Major and Epicenter Major. This success story continued in The International 2019 too. 

After defeating Fnatic, TNC Predator, RNG, Evil Geniuses, Team Secret, and PSG.LGD, the dream run of Team Liquid, was stopped by the defending champion OG by 3-1. 

After four years of playing in Team Liquid, KuroKy formed Nigma Galaxy in 2019. He is now playing in Position 5 and captaining the team Nigma Galaxy in the current DPC season.

KuroKy has won over $5 million from the competitive esports scene of Dota 2. He is in the 6th spot of the highest-earning esports player list. He won more than $2 million when Team Liquid won the International 2017.

In 2022 he won $59,083.58 From 6 Tournaments. Though there are few rumors about retiring, KuroKy is still an active player of Nigma Galaxy. He is playing as a position five player and captaining his team consisting of:

He does not have any YouTube channel and has 13.8k followers on Twitch. He is inactive in streaming. He is solely focusing on his team Nigma Galaxy as a player and a co-founder.
